Why Writing is Great for your Life

Table of Contents

When I first started writing, I was just a kid. I wasn’t really sure where I was going to go with writing, but I knew that from the moment I started writing my first stories that I was going to love the practice forever. However, writing may seem like a daunting task. I totally understand that and I remember a time in my life when the idea of 60,000 words seemed like a horrifying mountain that I could never climb. Writing is genuinely a fun and mentally stimulating experience that can help you and your life out in many ways.

1. You can Write your Feelings

One of the things that I find valuable when it comes to writing is the idea that you can express how you feel without being direct. Sometimes, we go through challenging times in life: This is a very common experience. Even if life seems to be going well, there’s always some sort of curveball that gets chucked at our faces. Whenever I went through some bumps in the road, I’d sit down and write a story. It didn’t need to be long or intense. It just had to be a story. Something that allowed for me to express exactly how I felt.

You can also write a book and integrate your feelings throughout it. It’s not a requirement, but it can certainly help alleviate some of the stressors of life.

2. Writing can be about Anything you want

Writing is not only about epic tales of fantasy and magic and war. It can easily be about literally anything you want. Do you like to write about dogs? Or maybe finance? Whatever it may be, you can literally write about any of your passions and turn it into something you can do all the time. Your writing can be short or long. It can also be short stories, poetry, novels, epics, etc… At the end of the day, it’s an excellent way to convey your passions to other people.

3. Writing can become a career

Who doesn’t like money these days, eh? No, but seriously, you actually can turn writing into a career. You can start a blog, write books, work in writing jobs, start a YouTube channel and write scripts–you can monetize writing to your best advantage. This way, your income gets a nice boost. You can write as much or as little as you like, but the more you write, the better your chances are at making really good money off of it.

4. Writing can help Track Improvement

If you’re trying to grow in something, keeping track of what it is that you’re doing via journaling is a great way to utilize writing to your advantage. Through keeping journals, you can understand how you were able to grow in that thing. I find that journaling or at least documenting highlights of my day allows for me to see my progress and keeps me motivated to do better the next day.

5. Writing can help you Remember things

If you’ve ever taken notes, you’ll know that computers and keyboards are really easy to take notes on. At least, this is true for me. I can certainly type faster than I write any day. However, it is scientifically proven that writing notes actually allows for you to better memorize what it is that you wrote. Typing does not necessarily provide that personal connection you can have to physically writing out the words. I took an introductory psychology course in university and my professor didn’t actually let us type our notes at all. I found that it was the easiest class for me when I was forced to pay attention and ensure my notes were complete and made sense. However, I still sometimes fall into the habit of typing everything. Sorry…

5. Writing can Help your Passion Projects

As you may know already, a big feature on my website is the idea of world building. There are so many components that come about with world building and it can aid in almost any project you’ve got going on. Some people I know just like to design worlds because it’s fun. For me, I use it in my writing. Whatever your reason is, writing your ideas for a world can help boost your passion projects.
